The forms of the glasses prescription are in a great variety, but the basic items are the same such as name, sex, age, occupation and so on. The most important items are the nature of the sphere lens, the diopter, the refraction degree of the column lens, the axial position, uncorrected visual acuity of the right and left eyes, corrected visual acuity as well as the pupil distance.

Now I would like to tell you the meaning of the marks in the prescription.

OD / RE / R :聽 right eye
OS / LE / L : left eye
+ :聽 Convex lens聽聽 ( for the hypermetropia )
- :聽 Concave lens聽聽 锛坒or the myopia锛

After 鈥 +鈥 or鈥 鈥撯澛 , the Arabic value is lens’ diopter, but what needs to pay attention to is that diopter in the prescription glasses and the strength of eyeglasses are not the same, a difference of 100 times between them, for instance, - 1.00D is equal to 100 degrees which we usually say;

DS :聽 Spherical lens 锛坆oth for hyperopia and myopia 锛
DC :聽 Cylindrical lens ( for astigmatism )

Behind DS, there is a mark “()”, representing the spherical lens “United” the following the cylindrical lens; at the back of DC, there is also a mark “脳”, separating聽 the front degree of astigmatism from the behind the astigmatic lens axis 锛1锝180掳锛;

PD :聽 pupil distance
For example,
锛诧細鈥2.OO DS () 鈥 2.OO DC 脳 90掳
锛帮激锛63mm

It stands for right eye锛200 degrees of myopia with 200 degrees of astigmatism, degree of astigmatism axis is 90 掳, the pupil distance is 63 millimeters .

GlassesShop.com invites the authoritative eye specialists to answer these questions that everyone should know so that more and more people can understand them.

1 What is refractive index?
Refractive index is the ratio (N) between the light speed of travelling through the air and that of travelling through the lens. The higher the refractive index is; the thinner the lens would be.

2 The safe central thickness of lens (International)
Resin: 1.0MM聽聽聽 glass: 0.7MM
Zeiss (a brand of glasses, has its own standard)
Resin: 1.2MM聽聽 glass: 1.5MM

3 What is the relationship among Abbe number, dispersion and refractive index?
The higher the refractive index is, the lower the Abbe number is and the larger the dispersion is.

4 What are the refractive indexes of eyeglasses lens?
1.523聽聽聽 1.61 (Zeiss only)聽聽 1.7聽 1.8聽 1.9

5 What are the refractive indexes of resin lens?
1.499聽聽 1.56聽聽聽 1.61聽聽聽 1.67聽聽聽 1.701聽聽聽 1.74

6 What are the techniques of the resin lens?
(1) Harden
(2) Apply antireflection coating (FGMC)
(3) Apply UV coating
(4) Anti-irradiation coating (EMI)
(5) Dye

7 What is the polarized lens?
Only the light comes from one direction can travel through the polarized lens. Just as shutter, the polarized lens can filter a part of veiling glare, which makes the light tender and reduces glare so that we can see things more clearly and truly. It is especially suitable for fishing and driving.

8 What does it mean by 50 18 35?
means the representation of a box; 50 is the maximum horizontal diameter of eyeglass frames; 18 is the length of center sill; 135 is the leg length.

9 What does the CE on the frame mean?
CE is the Quality System Certification of Europe.

10 What are the advantages of aspherical lens?
(1) The appearance is more beautiful with less swirl grain.
(2) The image is clearer and more vivid, with which people are tireless.
(3) The lens is lighter and thinner.
(4) The field of view is wider.
